There is no better time to wear those tiny pink ribbons lapel pins called Breast Cancer Pins than this month of October being the national Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Help spread the word and boost breast cancer awareness by ordering now.
An ideal tool for fundraising, Breast Cancer Pins can come in all forms and designs. A number of aid organizations have included angels in the design of their Breast Cancer Pins. They say the angels provide them tremendous spiritual guidance and inspiration.
Some may add in flowers, while others redesign their 4-Women lapel pin into becoming Breast Cancer Pins in salute to their sisterhood.
Breast Cancer Pins are dearly loved and genuinely supported by those whose lives have been greatly touched by their journey with the disease. Tiny as it may seem, these pins provide breast cancer survivors and their loved ones of hope, courage and love.
Show your support this October by wearing Breast Cancer Pins.
Breast Cancer Facts
The National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc. (NBCFI) says that one woman in eight either has or will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. And mind you, women do not have the monopoly of the disease. NBCFI also discloses that 1,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 400 will die this year. Those are indeed scary statistics.
Cancer is not new to us. Undeniably at some point in our life, we had to deal with it. It may have been a friend's friend, a mother, sister, an aunt, or even a teacher. While most believe that cancer is somehow an inevitable illness given our fast-paced and unhealthy lifestyle like addiction to fast food (they say it's convenient) and smoking (they say it keeps them sane), we can still avoid it.
Just like any other disease, cancer can be prevented or at least detected early.
The standard breast cancer detection measures are easy to follow:
. You should submit yourself to a clinical breast examination every three years if you are between the ages of 20 and 39, then every year thereafter.
. You should start conducting monthly breast self-examinations once you reach the age of 20. Through this, you can monitor any changes in your breasts.
. Mammograms are among the best early detection methods, yet 13 million U.S. women 40 years of age or older have never had a mammogram. (source: NBCFI)
. You should start having mammograms by the age of 40.
. From then on, continue submitting yourself for Mammograms every one to two years if you are between 40 and 49.
. Mammograms however become more frequent for women who are 50 and older. It should be performed every year.
. Get yourself a personal health calendar or journal where you can record the results of your self-exams, mammograms, and other medical appointments.
. And lastly, adopt a healthier lifestyle. Get into a low-fat diet, exercise regularly, and stop smoking and drinking. Bear in mind that history of breast cancer in the family may lead to an increased risk.
